Progressive Web Apps (PWA)

Thinking about building a traditional iOS or Android APP for your business? Hold that thought; reason being there is a new breed of Apps out there called PWAs. A ‘Progressive Web Application’ takes advantage of the latest technologies to combine the best of web and mobile apps. Think of it as a website built using web technologies but that acts and feels like an app. Recent advancements in the browser and in the availability of service workers and in the Cache and Push APIs have enabled web developers to allow users to install web apps to their home screen, receive push notifications and even work offline. These apps work everywhere because they are delivered through the web (as opposed to native apps which are packaged and deployed through stores) whilst providing several features that give them the same user experience advantages as native apps. Relatively and comparatively speaking, PWAs don’t have to be expensive to create or maintain either.

Entirely different to hosting, maintenance includes all the elements that have to be designed, updated and fixed on your actual site (so unlike hosting maintenance has nothing to do with the server). Website Maintenance involves all the things that impact changes to the front end of your site; content management, design and development, functionality enhancements and updates. If you want to get the best out of your website you have to deal with site maintenance (for example, installing security patches, upgrading code and updating plugins when content management system platforms update). Unless you’re an experienced web designer/developer (or can put in the hours required to become a pro) this can often be more trouble than it’s worth and take your focus off doing what you’re good at in your business.
